“Gaming is a waste of time!”
“Do something productive…”
If you've ever been a gamer, I'm sure these familiar tunes make your skin crawl.
But hey, you weren't wrong for indulging in your favorite pastime. In fact, nay-sayers could actually benefit from the anxiety and stress relief that cozy gaming provides.
As a young adult with ADHD juggling the demands of life and parenthood (hello, overwhelm central!), I experience life in a constant state of stress.
Parenting is undoubtedly one of life's greatest joys, but it can also be incredibly tough. And taking time for ourselves is crucial for our mental and emotional well-being.
That’s great and all, but here’s the kicker: I somehow found myself completely neglecting my own needs.
A few breakdowns later (Yikes!), I realized I needed to find a way to break free from this constant fight-or-flight mode I was stuck in.
So, I tried everything from exercise to meditation to burying myself in a good book for some stress relief.
While each method had its merits, none quite hit the spot.
I found myself craving something more immersive, something that could transport me to a world of wonder and joy.
Enter gaming: once my beloved pastime, now relegated to the dusty shelves of nostalgia!
I started gaming again to rediscover my inner child-like joy.
I used to adore video games when I was younger.
There’s just something about escaping into virtual worlds filled with adventure and endless possibilities that still calls to me.
But as life got busier, gaming took a back seat.
Now, in my quest to reclaim some much-needed relaxation time, I knew I had to dive back into the world of gaming.
But not just any game would do.
Oh no, we’re talking about finding the holy grail of relaxation – gaming edition.
It doesn’t take rocket science to realize that not all games are created equally when it comes to stress relief.
While some titles, like Fortnite and GTA Online, can crank up the tension and anxiety levels, others offer a cozy, comforting escape.
And thus began my quest for the ultimate chill game – to find my digital serenity.
I decided to start off with the big daddy of cozy gaming: Stardew Valley.
What the heck is a “Stardew Valley"?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of Stardew Valley.
But, if you have not, let me introduce you to this magical gem.
Stardew Valley is a farming simulation role-playing game or RPG. (AKA a warm hug in game form)
The player is set to restore a neglected family farm, cultivate crops, and form relationships with townsfolk. You can even get married in-game!
Loaded with activities like fishing, mining, and tons of side quests, the game offers endless opportunities for exploration and relaxation.
If you’re a fan of games like Harvest Moon, Terraria, or Animal Crossing, you will fall head over heels for Stardew Valley.
It’s a must-play for anyone seeking a tranquil gaming experience.
Stardew Valley is like the spa day of gaming.
Located in a cozy countryside town, it’s like a cozy retreat from the hustle of modern city life, inviting players to savor the simple joys of farm living.
But beyond its surface appeal, Stardew Valley is praised for its therapeutic benefits, especially for those dealing with conditions like Autism, ADHD, and chronic stress.
Its leisurely pace and freedom to set personal goals make it a stress-free zone, away from deadlines and competition.
For anyone who struggles with focus, the game’s repetitive tasks and clear objectives can help improve attention-span. (It’s the perfect antidote to scatter-brained chaos!)
And most importantly, Stardew Valley offers a safe space for anyone seeking refuge from the stresses of everyday life.
Whether you’re tending to your crops, exploring the mines, or forging friendships with the townsfolk, the game encourages mindfulness and self-care in a uniquely immersive way.
So, join me on this cozy Stardew Valley gaming journey, where we’ll melt away our stress and anxiety and rediscover the joy of gaming together.
